This fascinates every technically interested person: a model submarine built in detail that can really dive like a big one. In Günther Slansky's hobby workshop, not only numerous "normal" ship models of the best quality were created, but also several submarine models. He now shares the treasure of his decades of experience and knowledge with submarine enthusiasts and shows what is important when building a functional model. Here the question of the choice of model is discussed and where suitable construction documents can be found. It then deals with the necessary physical principles such as compressive strength and positional stability. Finally, the focus is on a detailed description of the construction of the German Type II submarine U 18, including all details of the hull, superstructure, armament and equipment, diving and control technology, through to trimming and the first sea trials.
