Ribbed wings made of fiber composites (PoD)

The advent of modern fiber composites has made it possible to further develop the good old finned wing design: it is now possible to produce stiff and strong finned wings whose low weight cannot be achieved with any other design. 

Stefan Dolch has worked intensively on lightweight construction, and in this book he passes on the wealth of knowledge and experience he has gained in designing and building lightweight ribbed wings. The dimensioning of the load-bearing parts is covered, as are practical workshop tips for implementation. One of the main topics is fiber-reinforced tubular spars, their manufacture, properties and use. The book concludes with a detailed presentation of selected wing designs, for example a super-light electric glider wing with a span of 2.2 m, weighing only 85 g when ready to fly and yet suitable for aerobatics.
