Cut styrofoam wings yourself
The construction plan in book format
Anything
that is supposed to fly has to be light and stable at the same time - this is
especially true for RC glider models. Wing cores made of extruded polystyrene
foam (a further development of the well-known styropore) are particularly well
suited for combining lightweight construction and stability. Ulrich Osinski has
been using the material for the wing construction of RC gliders for 20 years.
Polystyrene foam is inexpensive and relatively harmless. Glues and paints
containing solvents that are hazardous to health are virtually non-existent.
The
author describes how wing cores made of polystyrene foam can be precisely cut
and directly coated, using the example of an RC two-axis glider with curved
wings. In addition to the handling of the materials, the styrene cutting device
used by the author is described. It can be copied by anyone interested, so that
the introduction to cutting styrofoils is easy.
