Fiber-reinforced plastics have been used in model making for over 30 years. Model aircraft construction would be unthinkable without them, and the model ship builder who wants a lightweight, watertight and at the same time stable hull with plenty of room for the technology will also turn to glass, carbon and aramid fibers. In this book, Hans-Jürgen Freund, who has learned and practiced working with these materials professionally as a body builder, describes in detail which fiber-reinforced plastics are available and what the model builder has to consider when processing them. Freund provides information on fiber and resin systems, gelcoats, glass mats and fabrics, rovings, tapes and release agents; he also covers the choice of appropriate tools and protective materials for the modeler.
